How to remove mould from shower: Mum uses Ajax Professional Mould Remover from Woolworths

A mum has revealed how she cleaned her filthy shower screen using one affordable product - no scrubbing required.

Andrea, from the Gold Coast, said she was embarrassed to share how just how filthy her bathroom shower was, but the impressive transformation was 'too good' not to share.

Andrea revealed she used the Ajax Professional Mould Remover cleaning spray, left it on the dirty walls for a few hours then wiped off any excess.

'I forgot to go back and scrub after I sprayed this morning but didn't have to!' she wrote.

'Second pic of a very dirty corner is where my son left his snorkel goggles, hence the build up. Will attack the glass tomorrow, might even use the same product.'

The walls and corners of the shower were originally ridden with splatters of dirt and mould, but the $3.50 cleaning product worked wonders at removing the unwanted build-up.

In the comments Andrea said the exhaust fan in the bathroom had broken down and needs fixing, hence the mould.

But it wasn't her intention to leave the cleaning spray on the surface all day.

She sprayed the product in the morning but needed to attend to her husband in hospital an hour away, and the sick cat with an eye infection was also taken to an emergency hospital in the opposite direction.

Despite the 'chaos', Andrea was pleased with the end result.

The product can be purchased from Woolworths for $3.50.

Other parents were amazed by the transformation and thanked Andrea for sharing the product recommendation.

'Don't be embarrassed! We all have life getting in the way sometimes, I will definitely be looking for this stuff in my next shop for my shower. Thank you so much!' one wrote.

'I swear by this stuff it's the best,' another said.

But some seemed concerned and encouraged Andrea to scrub the shower down anyway to ensure the mould doesn't return.

Cleaners also shared their professional tips.

'As a cleaner, you will definitely still need to give it a good scrub. The mould will be bleached but a lot of the build up of it will still be on the tile & grout surface,' one woman said.

Another cleaner wrote: 'I'm a cleaner, I'd recommend you buy a grout brush and give it a good scrub. Then pour vinegar over all the surfaces, to kill all the mould spours. You really don't want to be breathing those in'

'Please don't use this on glass. You only need glass cleaner sponge and squeeze to clean any glass. Chemicals like this will cause damage on the glass over time,' another woman suggested.

A third added: 'I would spray again and let it sit then give it a good scrub maybe with gumption then rinse with vinegar or clove oil actually kills mould, spores.'

Removing mould from your home should always be handled with care because mould can lead to serious health implications.

How to remove mould from your home:

Professional cleaner Anita Birges recommends first cleaning the area with a homemade solution spray followed by a 'prevention solution'

1. To make the cleaning solution, pour equal parts isopropyl alcohol and warm water into a spray bottle

2. Apply to the area and leave on for 10 minutes

3. Wipe over with microfibre cloth

4. Next make the mould prevention solution using 10 drops clove oil, 10 drops tea tree oil and 100ml white vinegar

5. Spray the solution onto surfaces and area around the home - such as the shower, windowsills, roller blinds, etc
